Guajillo Chile Powder

This is another chile from Mexico and these are considered a mild heat chile coming in at 1,000 - 2,000 SHU (Scoville Heat Units).

The Gujillo has an earthy, bright red in color and the flavor while slightly hot is not overpowering with a simple dried-chile taste. It also has a hint of smoky tartness.

Along with the Ancho chile which has a deeper richer taste, the Guajillo, with its zesty and spicy taste, is one of the workhorse chiles that are popular in many Mexican cooked dishes, soups, stews, salsas and sauces.
