Rubs are used to add flavor and texture to steaks. Go ahead, be generous with this rub. Use about 2 tablespoons for each pound of steak. Brush the steak with some oil (we recommend a quality olive oil) before applying this rub. Rubs work best when applied in advance. Up to 2-3 days ahead of grill time is ideal.

This 12-ingredient blend has a noticeable sweetness in the flavor profile from the brown and white sugar and it doesn’t pack as much heat as our Kickin’ Chicken Rub does. You get just a hint of heat from the red pepper flakes as well as a very subtle heat of both the brown and yellow mustard which also provides pungent undertones.
